Leung Shek Lun was born in Nga Tsin Wai in 1936. His origin of ancestry was Lai Chee Yuen, which was near Hau Wong Temple. His father’s generation moved into Nga Tsin Wai. His grandfather was a man of considerable fame and wealth. His father graduated from Wah Yan College and worked as the Postmaster’s secretary. Before the war, SL Leung was made the nominal son of Ng Wai Chi, village head of Nga Tsin Wai. Since SL Leung’s family members died one after another during the war, SL Leung had lived with his nominal father. After peace was restored, he studied at Mongkok Workers’ Children School for 4 years, and dropped out for work at the age of 15. In 1962, Chi Tak Public School was founded. As arranged by his nominal father, SL Leung ran a kiosk in the school and, after 10 years or so, he also worked as a janitor. He retired in 1996. Touched by his godfather’s selflessness, Uncle Lun first became an enthusiastic participant in community affairs during childhood. He subsequently joined Hong Kong Kowloon Merchants Hawkers Association in the late 1960s, and served as a co-opted member of Wong Tai Sin District Council in the 1980s. Since 1966, Uncle Lun has also helped out at Nga Tsin Wai’s Jiao sacrificial ceremonies, going on to serve as the main organiser of both the 1986 and 1996 events. Following the invitation of the then Village Headman, Ng Kau, he also served as Nga Tsin Wai’s Village Representative and Secretary of Ng Shing Tat Tso in 1989 in contributing to village and clan affairs. He also served in several local community organisations.
