Service at Radio Hong Kong,1970-2009

Chung Wai Ming had deep roots in Radio Hong Kong. His debut as a broadcaster was on Radio Hong Kong, the only radio station at the time. Even though he worked in different organizations after that, his ties with Radio Hong Kong persisted. In 1970, he finally joined RTHK full-time, as Programme Director. It also meant that for the first time, he became a civil servant. After retiring at 60 in 1991, he continued to work there on contract, first on Radio 7 and later, Radio 5. He received an MBE (Medal of the British Empire) in 1992. His years of service also earned him the title of “King of Broadcasting”. Until he passed away in November 2009, he was still hosting a programme for the elderly on Radio 5 and a morning programme from 5 to 6 every morning.
