The Veterans' Stories

Well, the Vietnam War!  Why do you think were there so many freakish problems coming up with our planes when the U.S.Force did their acceptance inspection?  That was because the military themselves were running rings round…
Some naughty USAF crew purposely dysfunction the planes
We received many U.S.military planes. They did trial flight every Saturday and departed the next day. If they had underspent the budget, the crew would pull a fast one: they pretended to be ready for takeoff, and then made a “serpent list” (a list of machine errors), making up the unrepaired parts. With it they upheld that the plane was not ready for takeoff and ordered us to redo the work, only to notify them after we finished. Our boss, of course, blamed us for not doing our job properly. But when we checked it over, we found that the pilot had actually pulled off the wire fuse. That’s why the signal light was not working and they could fill in “US” — unserviceable. We knew there was something strange about them, so we called them at the hotel. It turned out they had all gone out for fun. They had the extra military provision so they spent it in the pubs. The next day they came back and rushed off.
C-124 transport aircraft of the U.S.Air Force was often seen during the Vietnam War.
