Village Life-Ancestral Worship

Liu clan children walk in procession past the banyan tree.

Liu clan children walk in procession past the banyan tree.

Place:North of Sheung Shui Village
Date:17-7-1964
Observation:On the 9th and the 10th days of the 9th lunar month the very large school run by the clan closed to allow all the Liu schoolchildren to attend the grave worship of the founder and his son respectively. Village leaders (who were all clansmen) saw this participation of the children as important for instilling a sense of pride and unity in the younger generations. Here the children are on their way to worship at the grave of the clan's founding ancestor in 1994. In previous years they had paused under the tree to sing songs before setting out on the long walk to the grave.
